Esteemed
educational and social critic Porter Sargent founded Porter Sargent
Publishers in 1914 “to bring new concepts and ideas outside the usual range of the
educator’s vision.”
F.
Porter Sargent established Extending Horizons Books as part of Porter
Sargent Publishers in 1955, expanding his
father’s mission to include other authors. He chose to first publish a
new edition of Kropotkin’s classic, Mutual Aid, to ensure its
availability would not be subject to capricious trends in social thought.
Today,
Extending Horizons Books, now an independent entity under the direction of
the Sargent family, continues to provide a unique forum for timeless
ideas.
